What I'm Carrying Into 2026 (And What I'm Letting Go)

January always arrives with a lot of noise. So I used the month to figure some things out.

New goals. New planners. New versions of ourselves we’re supposed to become overnight. And while I love a fresh start as much as the next person, I also know this: real change doesn’t happen because the calendar flipped. It happens when we get honest about what we’re holding—and decide what still deserves space in our lives.

So instead of rushing into 2026 with a long list of resolutions, I’m choosing something gentler. I’m choosing intention.

I’m asking myself two simple questions: What am I carrying into 2026? And what am I finally ready to let go of?

And yes—I’m writing it down.

Why Writing It Down Matters

There’s something powerful about putting pen to paper. When you write things down, they stop living only in your head and start becoming real.

They gain clarity. They gain weight. They gain intention.

At Around the Way Parchment, we believe handwritten words aren’t just sentimental—they’re grounding. They help us slow down, reflect, and reconnect with what actually matters.

January is the perfect time to do just that.

What I’m Carrying Into 2026

Not everything from last year needs to be discarded. Some things have earned their place.

I’m choosing to carry...

  • Habits that don't stress me out, even when they’re inconvenient

  • People who pour back into me, not just pull from me

  • Words that encourage, including the ones I speak to myself

  • Joy without justification...no explanations required, just lots of baking!

  • Creativity as care, not just productivity

If it supported my growth, brought me peace, or reminded me who I am—it’s coming with me.

You might consider writing your own “carry list” on a notepad like this, inside a journal, or even on the inside of a card to yourself. Something about seeing it in your own handwriting makes it feel… solid.

What I’m Letting Go of

Letting go doesn’t mean forgetting. It means deciding something no longer gets the same access to you.

I’m leaving behind...

  • Overexplaining my decisions

  • Guilt for resting

  • Waiting for the “perfect” time

  • Saying yes when I really mean no

  • Holding onto things that no longer fit who I’m becoming

Releasing doesn’t have to be dramatic. Sometimes it’s just a quiet decision made on a cold January day. And sometimes, writing it down is the closure.

A Gentle January Ritual

If you’re looking for a simple way to mark the start of 2026, try this:

  1. Take a card or a sheet of paper

  2. On one side, write what you’re carrying into the year

  3. On the other, write what you’re letting go of

  4. Date it. Sign it. Keep it somewhere you’ll find it later

You can even mail a card to someone you’re carrying with you into the new year—a small reminder that they matter and that your connection does too.

Because encouragement doesn’t have to wait for a milestone. Sometimes January is reason enough.

Moving Forward, Gently

2026 doesn’t need a perfect version of you. It just needs a present one.

So take your time. Write things down. Send the card. Speak kindly to yourself. And move into the year carrying only what helps you grow.

When you’re ready, we’re here—with cards designed to hold your words, your intentions, and your heart.

Here’s to carrying what matters and letting the rest go.

With love & intention,

Krystal
